We will not gather this Sunday as usual. Instead, Paul Gracie (728-3140) and his family are hosting our families at a picnic immediately AFTER the Parade. Look for the COLAGE O'ahu banner adjacent to the Equality Hawaii booth. If you get lost, call Paul at 728-3140 and look for the Equality hawaii booth for directions. I am not sure If I will be able to attend, as I am recovering from a knee injury and complications.
As for the Parade itself, go to http://honoluluprideparade.org for details. Meet at Magic Island--Kapiolani Park and look for the PFLAG O'ahu trolley. Try to get there well before the 10 AM starting time. The COLAGE O'ahu banner will be there and you are welcome to walk with the banner and use the trolley as base for your kids and picnic stuff.
-tom aitken

SA Civil Unions: The road ahead 3-6-11

Sunday March 6, 2011 Front Page of Star Advertiser featured a family that represents what we have been working for over 2 decades. Map and vital info are HERE!

Our exact line-up location is Uilama St. (See map in the attached pdf file) PFLAG is Unit #32 out of 103 units. Carlisle for Mayor is in front of us and the Knights of Columbus are right behind us.

The parade route (Kainalu Dr.) will be shut down at 9:00 AM and we need everyone in place by 9:30 AM.

There is limited parking available at Kailua Intermediate School (end of the parade) and along the side streets. There will be a shuttle running from 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM but NO PETS are allowed on the shuttle. (See the rules in the pdf file for more info) There will be NO SHUTTLE service after the parade.

The parade starts at 10 AM.

We will have water.

Human Rights Campaign and Pride Alliance Hawaii will be bringing candy but feel free to bring more - everyone loves candy! This will be our 10th Year marching in the parade and we very rarely reach the end of the parade with candy for the kids and big kids. Yes there is a lot of eye candy along the parade route for everyone.

Do not forget sunscreen because this parade does get hot and sunny.

Since we are so close to the front of the parade you can march with all of us then at the last intersection (Kuulei Road) peel off and go back and walk with your favorite candidate. They will ALL be there.

Please forward or repost this information. Remember, the staging map and vital info are HERE!

Mahalo!

Michael J. Lingle placed HB 444 on the POTENTIAL veto list today.

Yes we did expect this, so it was not a total shock all this does is it gives us another 14 days to reach Gov. Lingle and ask her to sign HB 444 into law. So to that end....

Every 4 days until July 4th we will be sending you a list of 4 different things you can do to help ensure that HB 444 becomes law. It is part of the 4-4-4 (4 Things U Can Do 4 Equality by July 4th) project. We are not expecting everyone to do everything on the list but we know people want things that they can do to help get HB 444 signed into law – so here is the first set of 4 –

1. It is right next the to the Hawaii Prince.

The only draw back from this change is that there is NO PARKING at this location. Only Parade vehicles will be allowed in. So you will need to either park at Magic Island and walk over or the better option is for drivers to drop off your passengers at the Ala Wai Yacht Brokerage and then park your car at Kapiolani Park and ride the PFLAG Trolley back to the Start of the Parade. The Trolley will leave Kapiolani Park right at 8:30 AM.

It is not too late to register your group or business to be in the Parade.

If you ride a motorcycle, crotchrocket or how ever you want to call it Dykes-on-bikes kick off the parade as they have for the previous 19 years.

We also have a Couples Unit being lead by one of our Couples Grand Marshal Kimi & Diane Racine.

Remember if you are an individual or just a group of friends there is no cost to walk in the parade, just like the Dykes-on-Bikes or couples units and you do not need to register. Just show-up and you are in!

Here is the TIMELINE for the Parade and Celebration on June 5th:

7:00 AM – Unit Check-in begins at the Ala Wai Yacht Brokerage

8:30 AM – Trolley leaves Kapiolani Park for the Start of the Parade

9:30 AM – All vehicles need to be in place

9:45 AM – Unit Check-in closes

10:00 AM – The 20th Anniversary Honolulu LGBT Pride Parade begins

11:30 AM – Honolulu LGBT Pride Celebration officially starts in Kapiolani Park around the Bandstand

We will have great entertainment, speakers, LGBT groups, food vendors, crafters and of course the Keiki Area!

6:00 PM – The 2010 Honolulu LGBT Pride Celebration ends

Then the party continues with the three different Official After-Parties 9 PM – 2 AM

in Waikiki – Tapa's Lanai Bar 407 Seaside Ave 2nd Floor – www.trystwaikiki.com/
in Chinatown – Downetowne @ Bar 35 - 35 North Hotel Street - www.downetowne.com
in Kapolei – Chemisstry @ T-Spot 590 Farrington Hwy - www.facebook.com/chemisstry

We do want you to know that we could not have gotten this far without your support!

So save your energy because Saturday June 5th is going to be a fun PRIDE filled day.

Have a GREAT Ha'aheo Month!

Michael Golojuch, Jr.
For the 2010 Honolulu LGBT Pride Parade and Celebration Committee

STATEWIDE LGBT Pride Events!

Maui Pride Weekend
June 4 – 6th - www.mauigayinfo.com/

20th Annual Honolulu LGBT Pride Parade and Celebration
June 5th – www.honoluluprideparade.org

Official after LGBT Pride Parade and Celebration Parties – 9 PM – 2 AM
in Waikiki – Tapa's Lanai Bar 407 Seaside Ave 2nd Floor – www.trystwaikiki.com/
in Chinatown – Downetowne @ Bar 35 - 35 North Hotel Street - www.downetowne.com
in Kapolei – Chemisstry @ T-Spot 590 Farrington Hwy - www.facebook.com/chemisstry

Kauai Gay Pride Picnic
June 12th - www.gayonkauai.com

The Aloha Bears Pride Cruise
June 13th – www.thealohabears.com

25th Annual Mr, Miss, Ms Gay Pride Contest Winners Announced
June 17th

Ohana BBQ
June 18th – www.honolulupff.org

Gay Pride Festival
June 19th – www.honolulupff.org

Hawaii Island Pride
June 25th – 27th – www.hawaiiislandpride.com

Anuenue Freedom Festival – Big Island
June 29th-July 11th – www.kalani.com/workshops/2010/anuenue-freedom-festival

(If you would like you event listed please e-mail us)

--
Please contacted Gov. We hope that you had time to catch at least one if not all of the films.

So back to the announcements – it was confirmed this week that the Democratic Party of Hawai'i will be joining us this year. Yes in the years since the creation of the GLBT Caucus the Democratic Party has marched under the GLBT Caucus banner but this year the Party is going to have its own contingent in the Parade. Yes the Pride Parade is for the LGBT community but we could have gotten to where we are today with out our allies, so this is a GREAT addition to the Parade. Every day the list of participants grows!

The Celebration following the Parade in Kapiolani has over 40 different vendors with everything from LGBT groups to local crafters to great Food Vendors and of course the Keiki area! Our entertainment line-up is being finalized as we speak and we are working to accommodate all the great talent and speakers that are clamoring to be a part of History!

So here is the time line for Saturday June 5th American families from every walk of life have taught us time and again that children raised in loving, caring homes have the ability to reject negative behaviors and reach their highest potential. Whether children are raised by two parents, a single parent, grandparents, a same-sex couple, or a guardian, families encourage us to do our best and enable us to accomplish great things. Today, our children are confronting issues of drug and alcohol use with astonishing regularity. On Family Day, we honor the dedication of parents, commend the achievements of their children, and celebrate the contributions our Nation's families have made to combat substance abuse among young people.
link

my dads' wedding

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://colageoahu.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-dads-wedding.html' title='my dads' This play date will be a special opportunity for our LGBT parents because, for the first time, we will be joined by four board members of the Family Equality Coalition Hawaii: Tambry Young, Suzanne King, Ken Plonsky and Paul Gracie.

The coalition has several very promising projects in the works for this fall, leading up to the next legislative session, so this is a great chance for busy parents to get the inside scoop while our children play.

Please pass the news of this special opportunity onto some of the other LGBT parents that you know and as always, don't hesitate to call Paul [728-3140] for location and questions.
<img width='1' height='1' Yesterday, the national NAACP came out strongly against Prop 8, as well.

From NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous (pictured):

“The NAACP’s mission is to help create a society where all Americans have equal protection and opportunity under the law,” said President Jealous. “Our Mission Statement calls for the ‘equality of rights of all persons.’ Prop. 8 strips same-sex couples of a fundamental freedom, as defined by the California State Supreme Court. In so doing, it poses a serious threat to all Americans. Prop. 8 is a discriminatory, unprecedented change to the California Constitution that, if allowed to stand, would undermine the very purpose of a constitution and courts - assuring equal protection and opportunity for all and safeguarding minorities from the tyranny of the majority.”

Specifically, the NAACP is urging the California Legislature to pass resolutions stating their objection to Prop 8 and urging the California Supreme Court to overturn it. Oral arguments in the case against Prop 8 will be heard March 5th. Stay tuned for more.

[Linkl]

URGENT: Civil Union Bill Public Hearing on Tuesday! It will still be part of the public record and benefits our efforts immensely.

See you on Tuesday! Remember, whatever the outcome of Tuesday's hearing, we are moving forward! We have momentum on our side. Each public hearing serves as an opportunity for us to educate the legislators, educate the public and expand our base.

Sincerely,
Alan Spector and Paul Gracie
Co-Chairs
Family Equality Coalition

Visit Family Equality Coalition Hawai'i and tell your friends about this.
Tell-a-friend!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://colageoahu.blogspot.com/2009/02/urgent-civil-union-bill-public-hearing.html' title='URGENT: Civil Union Bill Public Hearing on Tuesday! We will meet at 9:00 am to decorate. Our order in the parade is noted in the update below. Call 429-1242 if you have trouble finding our meeting place. The parade begins at 10 am, and we need a good crowd to continue to make our presence known for family advocacy. Bring the kids! Potluck to follow.

Parking passes will be distributed for the lot at Kailua Intermediate School or you can park on side streets near the school so you won't have to go far at the end of the parade. Gates will open at 7:30 am in the KIS parking lot. There will be shuttle buses available to take you to your staging area from 7:30 am until 9:00 am. Everyone MUST be in their staging area no later than 9:00 am. Kainalu Drive will be closed at 9:00 am. Parking at Kailua Intermediate School (at the end of the parade route) is on a first come, first served basis; shuttle buses will run from Kailua Intermediate to the staging locations from 8 until 9:00 am.

Remember: Be nice to everyone; don’t throw things; don’t stop to shake hands; do use umbrellas, hats and sunscreen; and drink lots and lots of water.

[Information in this post will be updated as it becomes available. We'll be staging in the Magic Island parking lot at 8:30 am. The parade starts at 9 am. PFLAG O'ahu has leased a trolley. Riders are needed for the trolley and marchers are needed for the huge rainbow flag that leads our group. Please come early to assemble the walkers, marchers and the riders. Come early and help us decorate the trolley. It's a fun morning in the park and all the way down Kalakaua. More than a party--it's an opportunity to exercise our Freedom of Speech Rights that are a part of the US Constitution. Sometimes we become so used to parades and parties that we lose sight of the whys of what we do. Of course, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for his courage, fortitude and insight in establishing civil rights but Freedom of Speech has made it possible to inform people about human rights for all. It still does. Hope to see you there. -Carolyn

LOGO brings LGBT TV to Mainstream Hawai'i

From their website:
"The LGBT world has a place all its own with Logo, the new lesbian & gay network from MTV Networks. organization:

COLAGE Mission

COLAGE engages, connects, and empowers people to make the world a better place for children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents and families.

COLAGE Vision

We envision a world in which all families are valued, protected, reflected, and embraced by society and all of its institutions; in which all children grow up loved and nurtured by kinship networks and communities that teach them about, connect them to, and honor their unique heritage; and in which every human being has the freedom to express sexual orientation, gender identity, and self.

We envision being part of large movements to heal and transform all forms of oppression, discrimination, bigotry and hatred in the hearts and minds of the members of our societies, as well as in school systems, mental and physical health systems, media, legislatures, legal systems, and all religious institutions.

We envision a world in which those of us with lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender parents or families are connected to a broad community of peers and mentors, are recognized as the authority of our experiences, belong to respected and valued family structures, and have the tools and support to create a just society.

Our Core Values

Throughout our organization and in all of our work with individuals, families, communities, and the world, COLAGE seeks to embody these values.

We value the basic principle that love makes a family.

We value a pluralistic definition of family and parent(s) encompassing a variety of kinship structures including:

immediate families, extended families, partners, straight spouses, and family structures which are marginalized in our society including single parent families, multiracial families, international families, and families with disabilities.

We value the family as a powerful agent of social and cultural change.

We value the experiences of our youth and families, acknowledging and honoring the struggle that many families face from externally imposed barriers, limitations, obstacles, and oppressions.

We value the idea that as COLAGErs, we are the authorities of our own experience.

We value our ability to express all parts of our lives and families freely and in all places.

We value our allies, who include a broad array of progressive organizations and individuals, all of whom support the rights of all youth, and every family, to thrive and grow.

We value coalition building with our allies, who recognize the value of organizing across differences and who are committed to creating the world we envision through positive action.

We value youth-driven, consensus-oriented governance within our organization.

We value seeking creative, fun ways to meet our ends.
